Firestone Mural Project

Inside The Firestone Mural Project by Akira Ohiso

Several weeks back, the Firestone Mural Project, consisting of a group of local artists, completed a series of murals outside the defunct tire shop.

This weekend, the group invited the public to go inside, experience additional art, and walk through the tire storage racks, where tires once rolled to a conveyor belt and then to the first floor and the garage.

The mural takeover inspires one to think about these urban spaces in creative ways that build community. The Firestone is slated to be torn down and redeveloped, but a project like this reminds us that we can pause to consider possibilities.
