Glitch Stitch Itch: Market 2 Leary by Akira Ohiso is a project that documents the same walk over the course of a year, from NW Market St and 14th Ave NW to Leary Ave. Ohiso set out to ground himself in the real world—not the Real World©—as a response to his growing disillusionment with mass media, the ‘Gram, and internet culture. Walking became an accessible form of instant freedom.
As an artist, musician, and writer, Ohiso draws on influences from pop culture, urban walking, and travelogues, while documenting his muscle-memory reactions to a content-saturated world. He has kept journals since his teens, employing a stream-of-consciousness approach in which the first recorded thought is often the most honest.
Incorporating artwork, iPhone photography, digital detritus, and diary entries, Glitch Stitch Itch is a travelogue of going nowhere and somewhere at once.
