Ellenville

This winter has not been as harsh and snowy as expected, but for some reason I feel restless.  Cabin fever, perhaps.  Talk of spring in January has been the requisite conversation in the checkout line.  Plans are deferred until it warms up.  Friends escape to tropical islands.  I crave distractions.

Ellenville is a struggling town. It reminds me of Liberty, NY where I call home.  I walked by a storefront that had a missing persons poster in the window. A young man from Ellenville went ice fishing in 1987 and disappeared.  The poster shows an age-progression photo of the missing man at age 43.  His parents continue to look for him.

A dog in the window of a barber shop wagged its tail when I walked by and slobbered on the glass.   Two young barbers were busy cutting hair.

The Nevele office, which was set up during it's push for a casino, is closed.
